River Basin: ‘Delaying RBDAs appointments is sabotaging Nigeria’s economy’ — Expert warns FG

A renowned businessman from Ogun State, Mr. Oluwole Komolafe, has expressed his concern that the ongoing delay in the release of appointment letters for the management teams of the 12 Nigerian River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) undermines the authority of President Bola Tinubu, who approved these appointments. He believes this situation is detrimental to the political climate.

In a signed statement, Mr. Komolafe emphasized that President Bola Tinubu knows the reasons behind his appointments and believes the individuals selected are capable of fulfilling their roles effectively.

Mr. Komolafe stated, “It is both unfair and unjust for anyone to withhold the appointment letters that should have been distributed at this time. Those delaying the release of these letters are acting as a stumbling block to the nation’s economy.”

He noted that many of these distinguished personalities significantly contributed to President Tinubu’s 2023 campaign, making it unfair for anyone to delay the issuance of their appointment letters.

Mr. Komolafe pointed out that these officials, who were appointed on December 18, 2024, have spent over ten weeks waiting to formally assume their positions so they can contribute to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hopes agenda.

He lamented that it is worrisome, pathetic, and sad that these high-caliber politicians are subjected to such undue behavior and are denied the opportunity to perform their roles because of the lack of appointment letters.

He recalled that many of these individuals traveled long distances from their respective states to inquire about their appointment letters at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja, but they did not receive favorable feedback.

Mr. Komolafe emphasized that those withholding the appointment letters should not frustrate these appointees, as their services will be needed during the 2027 general elections.

He concluded by stating that politics should not be dictated by the views of a particular profession but should be based on the competency of those appointed to lead such organizations.

Mr. Komolafe also allaged that some politicians are attempting to hijack the appointments and allocate positions to their associates, whom he described as not genuine politicians, a situation he considers very dangerous.
