‘Revive, preserve Ife’s cultural heritage’

The people of Ife, in Osun State have been advised to revive and preserve the cultural heritage of the town.

Professor Siyan Oyefeso, as guest speaker, said this during the  third memorial lecture in honour of the immediate past Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade,  took place   last  Saturday,  at the Ramon Adedoyin Presidential Hall  of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu,  Osun State, amid calls on Ife people to emulate the  virtues of the late traditional ruler.

The event, which took place under the chairmanship of the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba  Ademola Ajakaiye,  attracted dignitaries  from  across the country, had in attendance   traditional and  religious leaders, politicians, as well as other stakeholders, with everyone eulogising the   late traditional ruler for his humility, legacy of peace, unity, respect  for humanity and absolute love for Ife and its people.

Chancellor of Oduduwa University  and the convener of the  event, Prince Ramon Adedoyin,  said   the lecture was organised to celebrate Oba Sijuwade’s legacies and  contributions to Ife, Yoruba race, Nigeria and humanity.

He  said  Oba Sijuwade also deserved the honour as a mark of recognition  for his  contributions to the establishment, growth and stability of Oduduwa University, describing him as one of the cornerstones of the university when he was alive.

He added that the late  traditional ruler is being missed for his  love, resourcefulness, motivational blessings, moral and  material support, which were  instrumental to the success story  of the institution,

Professor Oyefeso, in  a lecture  tagged: “The legacy and relevance of Oranmiyan in contemporary Yoruba History,” also extolled the virtues of  Oba  Sijuwade,  whom he described as a peace loving  traditional ruler.

He decried the  attitude of  Ife people  towards their historical heritage and called for a revival, research and proper documentation of the History of the Ifes and their  achievements in order to preserve Ife historical and cultural heritage.
