Revisiting petroleum subsidy removal

Published by

The recent removal of petroleum subsidy has brought untold hardship to Nigerians, exacerbating poverty and inflation. As the government touted this policy as a solution to corruption and economic woes, the reality on the ground tells a different story.

The immediate effects of subsidy removal – increased fuel prices, transportation costs, and living expenses – disproportionately affect the poor and vulnerable. With soaring inflation and unemployment, Nigerians are struggling to make ends meet.

I urge the government to reconsider this policy and prioritise the welfare of its citizens. A gradual phase-out, targeted support for vulnerable populations and transparency in fund allocation are essential.

Nigerians deserve better. It’s time for policymakers to revisit this decision and find a more bearable solution.
