Return Akinlade’s ‘stolen’ mandate, Ogun councillors tell APC leadership

Published by
THE All Progressives Congress (APC) councillors in Ogun State, have urged the national leadership of the party to return the mandate freely given to the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon Adekunle Akinlade, to avoid confusion within the party.
This is coming barely four days after when 276 councillors of the same party declared their support to Prince Dapo Abiodun who was announced as the party’s candidate by the National Working Committee of APC.
The legislators at a meeting held at the Oba’s Complex on Monday, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, alleged that Akinlade’s mandate was ‘stolen’ following the declaration of the NWC which announced Abiodun as the winner of the election.
Raising an observation during the meeting, Hon Ololade Kazeem, from Ijebu-Ode Local Government, insisted that the recognition of Abiodun by the leadership of the party was ‘fraudulent’ and a ‘day night robbery.’
He said that the October 2 governorship primary by which Akinlade emerged as the candidate was conducted by the party in the state and was monitored by security agents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The lawmakers maintained that Akinlade is the winner of the election and must be duly recognised while distancing themselves from the endorsement of Abiodun by those people they described as “ghost” councillors.
Similarly, the Ogun State Youth Forum protested against the candidacy of Abiodun.
The youths, in their hundreds, stormed the Governor’s Office premises chanting anti-Oshiomhole songs.
The coordinator of the Forum, Lukman Abatan, warned the party’s national chairman to respect the peoples will by declaring Akinlade as the candidate of the party for the 2019 governorship election.
