Restructure federal allocation now, Dankwambo asks FG

Gombe State governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has disclosed that no country in the world practise true federalism in the classical sense of the term, advising the National Assembly to restructure existing national allocation system in the country to favour state governments.

Dankwambo, who spoke at the Igbinedion University Okada (IOU) Edo State, when he was honoured as a Distinguished Alumnus of IOU at the 18th Founders’ Day Ceremony of the institution, however said the federal system of government as practiced in the country has promoted unity in diversity.

Delivering his lecture on the topic: “The States In The Nigeria’s Federation”, the executive governor of Gombe State, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo said the existing federal allocation system whereby the federal government gets the biggest share was awkward, adding that state and federal government should get the biggest shares as the closest governments to the people in the grass roots.

Also speaking, Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, said investment in agriculture, improved electricity supply and industrialization would provide job opportunities for the unemployed in the country and reduce restiveness.

He noted that the education sector has witnessed series of challenges in the recent time but the government in its capacity has done much to improve on its standard.

He said institutions should also encourage adult education both in the rural and urban centers as education is continuous stressing that knowledge gained by the adults would help move the nation forward.

Buhari said the current administration welcomes public private partnership to grow the nation’s economy.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State noted that the gains of the private institutions in the country cannot be overemphasized as it has made education available to all.

He said the nation is losing most of its values and that it hinges on the youth to restore them and place the nation back to its pride of place.

On the part of the Honourable Chancellor of the institution, Sir Dr. Gabriel Igbinedion, he said the institution which started 18 years ago has graduated over 8,500 in the various discipline and they are holding their ground and flying the flag of the institution globally.
