Restoration of Nigeria, collective responsibility —Abegunrin

Metropolitan  Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Most Reverend Gabriel Abegunrin, has charged Nigerians not to blame politicians and government officials for the current state of the country.

Abegunrin stated this during the 70th birthday celebration of a veteran journalist, Chief Vincent Babajide Fadugba-Pinheiro, held at ST. Mary Cathedral Church, Oke-Padre, Ibadan, Oyo State.He said it was high time entire citizens stood to make the right choice for a peaceful country, as well as pray for divine intervention.

The archbishop described the celebrant as a worthy professional, who dignified himself in the vineyard and in the media, just as he noted that his wealth of experience had contributed to the growth of the church and the nation at large.

“I want to urge everyone and churches to make the prayers for the peace of the country a priority and for a peaceful election. We must also ensure to fully participate and vote our conscience in the coming election for the sustainability of democracy and a better Nigeria,” he added.

The two-in-one event: birthday celebration and a launch of 156-page book by the celebrant entitled: Weep not for me, when I am gone, was attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, including veterans journalists, authorities of the church, priests, friends and associates and families.

In his remarks, the celebrant, Fadugba-Pinheiro acknowledged everyone that came from far to celebrate him, noting that, “the celebration is a rare privilege to thank God for the gift of life and a successful career. Attaining 70 is Biblical and I don’t want to take this for granted.”

Speaking on the newly launched book, Fadugba-Pinheiro hinted that the book is centered on his life and life in general, adding, “It is a way to underscore that it is not ideal to weep over the dead. Instead, we pray for the dead. The book addresses the three genesis of life pre-mortal life, mortal life and post-mortal life.”
