Residents of Rigasa, Barnawa, Unguwar Dosa happy as road construction begins

THE people of Rigasa, Barnawa and Unguwar Dosa areas of Kaduna metropolis have expressed their happiness over the dualisation of road going on in their respective areas.

The road construction and rehabilitation exercise it was gathered was carried out by the state government under the supervision of the state ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.

Findings gathered that the dualisation of the roads was in fulfilment of the campaign promises made by the state governor, Mallam Nasiru El-rufai.

The commissioner in charge of the ministry, Alhaji Usman Hassan, has explained that the rehabilitation of the urban and rural roads would be completed in the next 18 months. He explained further, the delay in starting the project was as a result of the governors directive to pay compensation before works began.

Thus at Rigasa area, when the Nigerian Tribune visited the densely populated community, work had commenced on the 8km dual road . Over 50 houses built closed to the road  had been pulled down.

A resident of the area who gave his name as Mubarak Abdullahi affirmed that compensation was paid to him before his four rooms apart was pulled down.

‘Iam satisfied with the amount I collected. Also, I am happy that this particular road(Zaria road rigasa)  is being dualised. For over 20 years the people of Rigasa have suffered untold hardships especially during the raining season.

Abdullahi told Nigerian Tribune that during raining season, the road which is one lane was blocked by flood making it difficult for the motorists to move .

He also said traffic jam was an re-occurence phenomenon. However, with the dualisation of the road,  he said such experiences would be a thing of the past.

At Barnawa and Unguwar Dosa Nigerian Tribune findings revealed that story was  the same. The dualisation of the Aliyu Makama road to Sabon Tasha junction has commenced in earnest.   According to investigation, prior to this time, every morning there was always a traffic jam on the major road that link the area to other parts of the state.

According to Suleiman Yakubu  ‘the ‘Go slow ‘ syndrome  on this  road was an eyesore.

In just five to ten minutes one can drive out of this road but in the morning hours one can be on the road  for one to two hours.

‘We thanked the governor for keeping to his promise. We also hope, he would be able to complete the project in time.

At Unguwar Dosa, one of the youths who pleaded for anonymity  told the Arewa that, he had completed his diploma since five years ago and he has no work. To complement, his idleness he decided to join the traffic marshals who assist motorists every morning on  the Unguwar Dosa  road.

He said because it is a one lane road usually parents taking their children to school find it difficult to move fast because of the influx of vehicles on the road. He remarked that even though he was happy with the dualisation of the road as it would make the area more attractive but he contended that once  the project  is completed  I  would be out of work.

He told Arewa that even though the work is given him some monetary rewards but since it is about development Iam happy.  Speaking in the same vein, a gardener who sells flowers at Unguwar Dosa disclosed  that the dualisation has affected their business as he has to relocate to another place, nonetheless, he said the dualisation of the road gives him joy.

He stressed that his only wish is to see that God gives the governor the strength to complete the road project.
