Rescheduled elections : Bauchi INEC to distribute sensitive materials today

DETERMINED to ensure hitch-free conduct of the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections this Saturday, Bauchi State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun sorting out the sensitive materials for distribution to the 20 Local Government areas of the state ahead of the elections.

This was disclosed by the Acting Head of Department, Voter Education and Public Enlightenment, Ahmed Waziri, to newsmen at the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Bauchi Branch, in an interaction on the preparations of the Commission on Wednesday assuring that all the sensitive materials for the state have been received and will be distributed across the LGAs of the state today, Thursday.

Ahmed Waziri said that “We are here with all the electoral officers and political parties and what we are doing here is that we are sorting out the sensitive materials based on the local government areas. What we have are the sensitive materials including the ballot papers and the result sheets. All the materials are intact.

He added that “We are sorting out the materials to be on a safer side to be sure of what we have. We are doing that based on the 20 local government areas in Bauchi State,” explaining that all Electoral Officers were at the CBN with the number of registered eligible voters in their respective areas and will get the required number of ballot papers for the elections based on that.

He further said that after the sorting out, all the sensitive materials will first be shared to the local government areas that are the farthest in the state so that they can get to those areas in good time.

Ahmed Waziri also said that the Bauchi office of INEC received a directive from the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja to sort out and distribute the materials between Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st February to all the Local Government areas of the state.

He then expressed optimism that all the sensitive and non-sensitive materials will be distributed to the LGAs in good time in order to have hitch-free conduct of the elections on Saturday.
