Reps to probe recurring bombing in Sokoto communities

•ask FG to protect Nigerians living along C/River border communities from foreign invaders

The House of Representatives on Thursday unveiled plans to investigate the bombing of two communities in Sokoto State.

The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Maishinko Mani who expressed displeasure over the failure of relevant government agencies to end the heinous crime.

In his lead debate, Maishinko lamented that several individuals lost their lives as a result of a bombing of two communities in Sokoto state which occured in December 2024.

According to him, the bombing was a result of an error by the military who mistook the communities for hideouts of insurgents.

Maishinko expressed worry that these accidents have become a reoccurring problem that has not been resolved by the appropriate authorities.

This he stated has left defenseless citizens helpless and devastated.

He called on the Federal Government to provide relief materials and financial assistance to the victims that a thorough investigation should be carried out to unravel the cause of the attack and that the House Committee on Defense should carry out an independent investigation and report back to the House for further legislative action.

After the adoption of the motion, the House referred it to the joint Committees on Defence and National Emergency Management Agency for further legislative action.

Also at plenary, the House underscored the urgent need to keep Nigerians living along the border communities of Cross Rivers State safe from foreign invaders.

The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Alex Egbona.

In his lead debate, Egbona who observed that some communities in Cross Rivers State have continued to be ravaged by foreign invaders looking to steal Solid Minerals and other resources, called on the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police as well as the Department of State Security (DSS) to ensure the lives of the residents within the communities are kept safe.

Hence, the House mandated the joint Committees on Army, Police, and National Intelligence as well as that on Solid Minerals to take necessary legislative action.
