Reps threaten zero budgetary allocations to six FCT area councils

Published by

The House of Representatives on Tuesday threatened to withhold the annual budgetary appropriation of the six Area Councils for failing to honour the invitation of relevant standing Committees.

The resolution followed the refusal of the Chairmen of Area Councils to appear before the joint House Committees on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters.

To this end, the lawmakers who resolved to summon the FCT Minister of State and Chairmen of the Six FCT Area Councils, mandated them to appear before the joint Committees on Tuesday, 16th July, 2024.

In his intervention, Hon. Peter Uzokwe said that it was a sign of disrespect for appointed officials to refuse to appear before the House of Representatives.

The Chairman of the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Hon. Frederick Agbedi, maintained that the failure to appear was unacceptable.

While noting that a new date will be communicated to the FCT Council Chairmen, the Committee dissolved to an executive session.
