Reps set up ad-hoc committee to probe NNPCL, Dangote’s standoff

Published by

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, on Thursday announced the membership of the Ad-hoc Committee that will investigate the standoff over the price and modality of diesel oil sales between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery.

Hon. Abbas, who presided over the plenary, explained that the inauguration, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed after due consultation.

He stated, “In fact, we were supposed to inaugurate the joint Ad-hoc Committee to investigate this issue holistically yesterday. However, after due consultation, we decided to announce the membership today and fix a date next week for the inauguration of this Committee.”

He added, “One of the terms of reference is to look into this same issue we are discussing. So, I believe it would be a duplication of efforts. I’m sure during their investigation, the GMD (Mele Kyari) will be called upon to answer questions. Rather than subjecting him to several visits on one subject matter, we should put our confidence in the joint Committee. Let them conduct a thorough investigation and report back to us.”

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas continued, “As I mentioned earlier, it is my pleasure to announce the list of members who will join the Senate Ad-hoc Committee to jointly investigate this matter regarding the Dangote-NNPCL oil issue.”

The committee members from the House include:

  • Hon. Professor Julius Ihonbvere (Chairman)
  • Hon. Fatima Talba
  • Hon. Igariwey Uduma
  • Hon. Sani Igidi
  • Hon. Sada Soli
  • Hon. Aliyu Misau
  • Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh
  • Hon. Khadijah Eboh
  • Hon. Obi Ogocha
  • Hon. Gboyega Isiaka
  • Hon. Amos Daniel
  • Hon. Mohammed Bello Shehu
  • Hon. Kelechi Nwogu
  • Hon. Akin Rotimi (Jnr.)
  • Hon. Pascal

“We expect that the Committee will be inaugurated next week,” he assured.
