Reps reject move to probe FCS recruitment

THE House of Representatives on Tuesday rejected the move to investigate the 2016/2017 Federal Civil Service recruitment exercise with a view to identifying alleged anomalies.

The sponsor of the motion, Honourable Henry Nwawuba had in the motion proposed that, the House should mandate the committees on Public Service matters, and Federal Character to determine whether the 2016/2017 recruitment exercise by the Federal Civil Service Commission was carried out in accordance with laid down principles for such an exercise and report back in six weeks for further legislative action.

Earlier, before the motion was rejected, the sponsor of the motion had alleged that there was a recruitment exercise conducted by the Federal Civil Service Commission in 2016 during which many youths from all over the federation applied online and were looking forward to a competitive screening and interview in accordance with best practices.

According to him, “many of the applicants had their dreams of working for the federal government dashed by the failure of the commission to inform them about further processes regarding the exercise which had alleged to have lacked transparency and was not conducted in accordance with extant rules and was also in breach of Federal Character Principles, entry qualifications and proper placement of candidates”.

But when, the Speaker, Honourable Yakubu Dogara who presided over the session put the motion to vote it was voted against by the majority of the members via voice vote.
