Reps propose motion banning GSM providers from reselling registered SIMs

Published by

The House of Representative has proposed the prohibition of the resale of already purchased and registered SIM cards by GSM providers.

The motion was moved today at the plenary seating of the house.

Recall that in 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) warned telecoms operators against the sales of pre-registered  SIM cards, as the Commission asked subscribers and other members of the public to alert the Commission or  security agencies, whenever such infractions are noticed.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023 also directed the Central Bank of Nigeria

(CBN) to halt its directive on the addition of social media handles as part of the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirement for bank customers in the country.
