THE House of Representatives on Wednesday mandated its committee on Sports to investigate the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports over utilization of 2016 budget of Sports Federations.
The House also called on the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to postpone the planned elections into the Boards of the National Sports Federations and recall all members of the boards of the various Sports Federations that were dissolved.
The House resolution followed a motion moved by Hon Ayodeji Joseph entitled “call on the federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to postpone the planned elections into the National Sports Federations and recall members of the board that were dissolved”.
According to him, “the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports recently dissolved the boards of the various National Sports Federations and issued guidelines for elections into the federation.
On the proposed elections, he said that, the guidelines provide that prospective candidates who had spent two terms of four years each would not be eligible to contest elections into the sports federations.
In their contributions, Hon Ayo Omidiran, Edward Pwajok and Chika Adamu decried the action of the Ministry to dissolved the boards of sports federation.
The motion scaled through when it was put to vote by the Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara.
“We must deny these groups the undue publicity they crave,” the minister said.
