Reps pass bill seeking for establishment of Fed College of Agric in Osun

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed to second reading a bill seeking for the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State.

The bill sponsored by  Honourable. Wole Oke (PDP-Osun), is entitled: “A Bill for An Act to Provide for Establishment of Federal College of Agriculture, Ijebu-Ijesha, and for related matters”.

Presenting the Bill at the plenary presided by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon Oke representing Obokun-Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, canvassed for the supports of members for its passage because of the impotence attached to the establishment of the College in the area.

Hon Oke stated that he had brought the same Bill in the 8th Assembly, but it didn’t scale the process to third reading, hence the need to reintroduce it.

The lawmaker who stressed the need for knowledge acquisition in the agricultural sector stated that Osun state was known for its agricultural exploits, hence the need for establishing the college of agriculture to ensure the teeming and future agriculturalists can acquire needed knowledge in industrial agricultural practice.

The Osun State government, he stated had also promised to support the initiative if the Bill is assented into law

The bill was voted on, passed for second reading and referred to the Committee on Federal Colleges and Institutions by the Speaker for further legislative action.

The lawmakers also passed several bills, including a piece of legislation to Establish Federal Medical Centre, Ganduje, Dawakin Tofa, Kano State; and related matters.

The House also passed a bill to repeal the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and reenact the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Bill, to Regulate Training and Practice of Pharmacy, and for related matters.
