Reps minority leader raises concern over roof leakages at chamber

Published by

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Ndudi Elumelu on Wednesday raised concern over the safety of members due to the leakages of roofs in the chamber whenever it rains.

Hon. Elumelu who raised the concern during a point of order under privilege during plenary pointed out it was dangerous to continue sitting because of the multiple leakages in the hallowed green chamber.

The lawmaker representing Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP  pleaded that something urgent needs to be done to rectify the ugly situation.

According to him “I come under privilege on what is happening in this chamber. Mr Speaker if you look around, we are surrounded by water especially because our chamber is leaking and I am worried that if something is not done to address it, nobody holds one’s life but we never can tell what can happen.

“Coming into this place (chamber), you can see the cleaners, they are busy packing the water that is dripping from the roof into this chamber and to me it is dangerous for our continuous participation in our day-to-day representing our people, speaking for our people for good legislation. Mr Speaker, I think that something needs to be done to address these leakages within this chamber. This is my submission.”

However, in his response, the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who presided over the plenary said that it was an important point and that it was noted.

Many areas of the National Assembly complex leak whenever it rains since the rainy season began and nothing concrete has been done to address the anomaly.
