A member representing Fagge federal constituency from Kano State at the National Assembly, Mohammed Bello Shehu, has said as part of efforts in boosting educational standard in the state, he has spent over N38 million for the settlement of tuition of over 512 students from the constituency in different tertiary institutions .
“Among the beneficiaries of the initiative are students studying at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria; Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto; Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State as well as School of Hygiene, Kano, which has the highest number of beneficiaries,” he said.
He said this on Thursday during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), held at the Press Centre, Kano.
He said the initiative will be sustained as long as he remains at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
He disclosed that plans had already been concluded to build a primary school at Rijjyar Lemo area of the state.
“Rijjyar Lemo does not have a single primary school. We took note of this. I have already secured a location for the building of a modern primary school within the area. We have earmarked N50 million for the commencement of the project,’’ he said.
Shehu said his office is not neglecting the issue of flooding and erosion that has continued to devastate Fagge constituency, as he had already commenced moves to access ecological funds from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
He said that on his plans for the Sabon Gari residents, an enclave dominated by non-native, Shehu said he has the plan to rehabilitate, at least, two roads within the area.
