The House of Representatives on Wednesday tasked the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the urgent need to swiftly resuscitate the power transmission substation in Yenagoa, capital city of Bayelsa State without further delay.
The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Oboku Abonsizibe Ofor, who called for the House intervention.

In his lead debate, Ofor who cited Chapter II of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which provided for the economic and social rights of the citizens, called for the resuscitation of power transmission substation in Yenagoa.
He said: “The House also notes that on 23 September 2023, the 132/33KV Transmission Substation serving Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital and its environs was gutted by fire, throwing Yenagoa in total darkness.
“Subsequently, the State has been struggling to use only a feeder to supply five feeders.
“The House is worried that the operational feeder is getting weak and, if urgent steps are not taken, the feeder will collapse.
“The House is cognizant that the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has been carrying out remedial services to avert the collapse of the weak operational feeder,” he noted.
To this end, the House mandated its Committee on Power to ensure compliance.
