A Bill (HB.746) for an Act to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act and establish Federal Medical Centre in Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi has passed second reading at the House of Representatives.

The Bill was presented by the Member representing Toro Federal Constituency, Hon. Dabo Ismail Haruna seeks to establish Federal Medical Centre in Toro, Bauchi to be read for a second time.

While presenting the Bill on the floor of the House during Thursday plenary, Hon. Dabo Isma’il cited the importance of a Federal Medical Centre in Toro Federal Constituency which includes the growing population and need for a referral health institution in the area.

He further stressed that the need to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Toro became necessary considering the increasing pressure of facilities at the Toro General Hospital from the neighboring Local Government Areas of Jos North, Jos East in Plateau state, part of Lere LGA of Kaduna State and Doguwa LGA of Kano.

The Federal Lawmaker sought the understanding and support of his colleagues over the important Bill which If passed into law, the Federal Medical Centre will be beneficial to all Nigerians most importantly the people of Toro Federal Constituency who are presently travelling over 100km to access tertiary healthcare services in the state capital.

Another reason is that the constituency is a gateway to neighbouring states thereby having heavy traffic flow while accident victims may require tertiary healthcare services.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbs, after the second reading, referred the Bill to House Committee on Health for consideration and other legislative actions.
