THE House of Representatives on Wednesday mandated the House Committee on Aviation to liaise with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA saddled with the responsibility of regulating the aviation industry to ensure that rights of passengers were respected by airlines operating in the country.

The House resolution followed a motion by Honourable Tajudeen Yusuf entitled, “flagrant abuse of passengers’ rights by Nigerian Airline operators”.

He added that many anomalies which ranged from flight delay to ill-treatment of passengers and discriminatory fares by airline operators are portraying Nigeria in a bad light.

To this end, he said that, besides passengers not getting value for their monies, some airline operators devise shady and unwholesome practices for their respective local engagements.

He further stated that the failure of regulatory agencies, airline operators continually offer unsatisfactory services and treat passengers with outright disdain and disrespect.

Contributing to the motion, Honourable Nnamdi Agbo said that the relevant government agencies should be mandated to sit up on their regulatory responsibilities.

The motion scaled through when the Speaker, Honourable Yakubu Dogara put it to a voice vote.
