Report of my readiness to contest presidency in 2027 bogus, distractive — Obi

Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has stated that the allegation that he granted an interview about his intention to run in 2027 was a bogus report lacking any substance.

He also described another media report about his reaction to appointments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into the federal government as a distraction.

In a tweet on his verified handle, Obi said, “I have noticed with dismay an emerging pattern where fake media reports and news items are based on interviews and press remarks I never granted.

“Two recent instances relate to my supposed statement that I am looking forward to running for office in 2027 in an interview with Arise TV that never took place.

“The other is about my reaction to prospective appointees into the Federal Government. Both reports are bogus. Unfortunately, our politics has sunk to this abysmal level where manipulation of the media space is now a trade.

“For me, I shall continue to speak on topical national issues via recognized news and media outlets. But I certainly will not concern myself with cheap distracting trolls.

“My focus, and that of the Obidient Movement, will not waver from the original mission of creating a new Nigeria, which we believe is possible.

“Our emphasis has never been on political positions or personal gain, but on putting the nation on the right path and deepening our democracy by helping to uplift and empower the underprivileged in our society.

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate is currently in court challenging the February 25, 2023, presidential election, which declared the Labour Party as the runner-up after the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obi, who has disputed the result of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in court and is awaiting the verdict of the presidential election Tribunal, stated that his messages during the election campaigns were all issue-driven.”
