Rep Jibrin expresses confidence in passage of tax reform bill

A House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that the controversial tax reform bills presented by President Bola Tinubu will be passed into law.

He insisted that the bills are not “dead on arrival,” asserting that the North is not universally opposed to them. Jibrin made this statement on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.

According to Jibrin, once the bills are passed, Nigerians will see that they are not harmful to the country’s interests or to the northern region specifically.

While the bills have sparked significant controversy and faced resistance from some northern groups, the National Executive Council has also advised the president to withdraw them. Previously, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in the National Assembly, stated that the bills were “dead on arrival.”

Despite this, Jibrin clarified, “It is not a consensus in the North that this bill should be shut down.” He further explained that, based on his knowledge of how the National Assembly operates, the bills will not be abandoned.

He emphasized, “Hundreds of clauses in these bills are things we have been pursuing for ages. The work we’ll do will allow Nigerians to review all the details, and I am confident the bill will go through the proper processes in the National Assembly and will be passed.”
