Renewed cult rivalry claims one in Bayelsa

Fierce rivalry between the notorious cult group, the Greenlanders, and the Bobos on Tuesday night broke out and led to the killing of a 28-year-old boy, Victor Namabebe along the Amarata suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

According to report, the victim was said to have stormed the Amarata/Ebis Mechanic area with some group of boys suspected to be members of the Greenlanders against a member of Bobos who had allegedly crossed them.

Residents of the area explained that the fierce battle between the rival cult groups led to a volley of gunshots and use of dangerous weapons.

Many of the residents, who were at various viewing centres around 8 pm while watching Champions League matches, scampered home for safety.

The victim was reported to have been left in his pool of blood with various degrees of head injuries.

Sources told newsmen that the suspected cult groups domicile along the Apex Academy road, OMPADEC, Ebi Mechanic, and Amarata end of the State capital are on red alert for more reprisal attacks over the death of the victim.

Contacted on the development, the spokesperson of the Bayelsa Police Command, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the development and said the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.

According to him, “At about 9 pm, one Chief Emmanuel Namabebe reported at the A Division of the Nigerian Police that his 28 years old son, Victor Namabebe, was found dead at Amarata area of the State capital.”

“Police personnel from the A Division mobilised to the area and found the victim. Upon examination, he was found with various grievous injuries to the head”.
