Remove Kogi CP over insecurity, Ajaka’s media aide urges IGP

Published by

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, have been urged to remove the Kogi State Commissioner of Police (CP), Bertran Unuoha, following the high level of insecurity bedevilling the state.

The Murtala Ajaka Campaign Team of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which made the demand on Wednesday, pointed out that they can no longer trust the CP to handle the security situation in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Isaiah Davies Ijele, the Director of New Media and Spokesperson of the Muri/Sanu Campaign Council, said that the call has become imperative following the security challenges facing Kogi State at this point.

Narrating how he was almost killed in the state, Ijele said that the lawlessness and impunity in Kogi are getting out of hand.

He said that the state is becoming a den of robbers, kidnappings, and other vices, and the CP is not doing anything about it but only acts when it comes to political issues.

Ijele questioned the statement credited to the CP, where he raised concern over the forthcoming Supreme Court judgement in Kogi State.

He asked the CP how he knew that the Supreme Court would deliver its judgement on Friday when the apex court had not been constituted or composed yet.

In the statement, the CP said, “Remarkably, the outcome of the Supreme Court judgement is a source for concern in the security arena of the state, as political gladiators and their supporters may turn the celebration of victory or loss into an avenue to cause chaos that could give rise to grave animosity against whichever side the judgement might favouritism or fail.

Such might result in serious disturbances of public peace. Therefore, all hands must be on deck to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order.”
