Remain positive about economic turnaround, Ajimobi urges Nigerians

Published by

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has called for a renewed hope from all Nigerians on the ability of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to stem the current tide and take the country out of its current economic quagmire.

Ajimobi expressed confidence that ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to rejig the economy would soon begin to yield positive results.

Contained in a New Year message issued by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Yomi Layinka, Ajimobi called for concerted efforts of all Nigerians for the much anticipated economic turnaround.

He assured that the efforts of the state government to focus on infrastructural development and economic re-engineering, would improve the general well-being of citizens.

Ajimobi, who also acknowledged the gallantry of the country’s military agencies, evident in success in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East, called for prayers and support for the families of officers and soldiers who had paid the supreme price in the fight to liberate Sambisa forest.

He also appealed to the Niger-Delta militants to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign in the zone.

“The economic recession currently staring us in the face calls for concerted efforts to ensure that the country survives these trying times.

“Part of these efforts is for the restive Niger-Delta youths to ceasefire and allow peace to reign. They should stop the sabotage of oil installations and embrace dialogue. They should realise that it is only in an atmosphere of peace that the desired development can be achieved.

“To the good people of Oyo State, I want to assure you that with your cooperation and support, the administration under my leadership will continue to work towards the recovery of our economy.

“Recall that in my budget speech on Thursday, I reported how much work had been done to enhance our revenue base by expanding the tax net; by blocking financial loopholes, fixing leakages and institutionalising prudence in all spheres of the administration. May I, therefore, urge you to play your part in this direction.”

He restated the state government’s intolerance for any attempt by any group to plunge the state into chaos and lawlessness, warning that the full force of law will be brought upon any such group.
