Did your career start in the United States and how have you been coping?
It’s true I live in the United States but my career didn’t start there, it started in Nigeria and that was in 2006 when I featured in my first movie ‘Fears,’ but I stopped for a while. I continued after I got to the United States.
What informed the title of your new movie, ‘Insane’ and how did you decide the cast for the movie?
I actually have two – ‘Insane’ and ‘Get a girlfriend.’ As regards movie titles, I give movies title depending on how the story goes.
How would you describe the experience abroad compared to Nigeria?
I would say the difference is huge because actors in Nigeria have a lot of time on their hand to make movies but here, we really don’t have that much time as we have to work and make ends meet. So, the little opportunity we have is what we optimise to make movies.
How often do you get scripts from Nigeria and do you actually honour such invites to be part of a movie in Nigeria?
As I said earlier, I live in America but maybe when I travel to Nigeria, I may get one as I have friends in the Nigerian movie industry too. I don’t have any reservation and if I get any invite, I will gladly honour it.
Tell us about your career and what made you believe that acting was your way?
I’ve always loved acting since I was a young girl. I joined a group when I was in secondary school, Sunrise Club, where I was taught how to dance, sing and act. I could dance contemporary bata dance and many more. I participated in a series of stage plays when we toured schools to perform. After that, I joined Jide Kosoko’s group at Abule Ijesha, Lagos when Theatre and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) was still ANTP. Having done all these in the past, it was obvious that I had a talent in me.
How would you describe your journey so far as an entrepreneur?
Being an entrepreneur is not bad at all, especially for those of us overseas. You need to have something else doing to make ends meet. However, the journey has been absolutely awesome.
You are a pretty lady, how have you been coping with attention from men?
Men would try their luck but it’s left to me to handle them the way I want.
Who is the lucky man in your life and how soon are you planning to settle down with him?
Lucky man? It is a story for another day.
The growing trend these days is the relocation of actresses to the United States. What is the attraction?
I believe people who are relocating want a better life for themselves considering Nigeria’s economy and every other thing happening in the country. I wouldn’t blame them because relocating to the United States is worth it.
Does that mean life is really rosy over there for movie makers like you?
We are just trying. It is not that rosy but I believe we will get there one day.
How many movies have you produced so far?
Just two and I plan to produce more.
Do you plan to relocate to Nigeria to contribute to the development of the entertainment industry?
I don’t have plans to relocate to Nigeria. All I can do is come to Nigeria to make movies.
