Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi
The Oyo State Government has approved the rehabilitation of Ibadan-Iseyin Road, which is expected to be completed in about 18 months. To some, this project is long overdue, while some people are of the opinion that it is a step in the right direction. I support the second school of thought and I commend the state government for this action, which I believe will go a long way in boosting the socio-economic growth of the area and also reduce road risks.
The rehabilitation of this road will ensure a secure and well maintained transport system within the state. It will also help to decongest traffic and reduce the rate of accidents.
As we all know that a tree cannot make a forest, this applies to the citizens/residents of Oyo State; the government cannot do it alone without the support of the citizens as every individual also has a role to play in the socioeconomic development of the state. We are expected to maintain the roads, selling on the road is not good.
In essence, the roads in the state should not be used as mini markets. Motorists should ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before setting out on any journey, both long and short distance. Also, I urge us to bear with the state government in case of any discomfort during the projects as regards dust and slow flow of traffic. I also appeal to the state government not to relent in its effort to bring about improvement in every sector of the state.
