Last time we began talking about the need to be careful not to allow regret to ruin our year. We can stifle and kill the new year by not handling regret properly. Regret is a killer disease we must not take for granted.
Regret is revisiting the past and wishing things had been done differently and the inability to change the past produces sorrow, pain, shame and guilt. It makes us think of different things we could have done differently but the problem is that it’s too late to make a change. Regret cannot turn back the clock. Regret has no power to change the past.

If we are going to have a successful year we must reflect on and review the year gone by and if we have made mistakes or we have failed all we need do is to accept that we fell short. Once we accept we performed below expectation in any area we must not camp there and make regret our preoccupation. Once we accept our shortcomings the next thing to do is to see what lessons we can learn. Most times regret is the consequence of our actions carried out based on wrong strategy, violation of our values and principles and operating below what we know to be the established standards. Also regret comes because we were ruled by emotions and sentiments rather than by facts.
The key issue must learn valuable lessons from our regrets.
Regret reveal that we were operating with limited or defective wisdom. What we did that got us regretting reveals how much we knew and how wise we were. This, therefore, means to avoid future regret we must consciously grow in wisdom. Yesterday’s wisdom led to the regret of today and new wisdom today will prevent regret tomorrow. Only a fool make the same mistakes twice. Regret is a pointer that we were deficient in wisdom and there is an urgent need to acquire more wisdom. When regret hits us we must not be disestablished but step back to see what we can fix and fix them and whatever we cannot fix we have to move on and live with the consequences. We must not allow regret to keep us stuck in the past. We have our whole life right ahead of us so we cannot afford the luxury of regret tying us down to the past.
“We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.” Steve Maraboli,
“In terms of days and moments lived, you’ll never again be as young as you are right now, so spend this day, the youth of your future, in a way that deflects regret. Invest in yourself. Have some fun. Do something important. Love somebody extra. In one sense, you’re just a kid, but a kid with enough years on her to know that every day is priceless.”. Victoria Moran
As we proceed into the year let us look firearm to a great year. We cannot move forward and look back at the same time. Regret can never turn back the clock so move on with life.
“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.” Isiah 43:18-19 Message
