Reformed SARS: Prospective personnel to undergo mental tests

HENCEFORTH, intending and prospective members of the Special Anti Robbery Squad are to undergo psychological and mental tests for optimal performance.

The National Coordinator, Inspector General of Police X Squad, Mr. Amechi Elumelu disclosed this while briefing the press at the state force headquarter Awka, the Anambra state capital.

Mr. Elumelu said that the IGP’s X squad was formed to reform the operations of the men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad which is now called Federal Anti Robbery Squad for them to operate with the international best practices and respect for fundamental human rights.

Mr. Elumelu who is a Deputy Commissioner of Police further said that the Inspector General of Police has stopped SARS officials from searching Mobil phones and laptops of the people as well as engagement in civil matters, especially land and marital issues, adding that any policeman caught will be severely dealt with.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, noted that training and retraining of men of SARS, and their welfare are very important to the IG of Police, even as he said that they will create custody management system in all SARS detention houses across the country in order to ensure that fundamental human rights of suspects are not violated.

Mr. Elumelu revealed that the new Federal Anti Robbery Squad Nigerians are about to see will have new uniform, crest and their names, Force Number written on it and their mandate will be solely to checkmate kidnapping and armed robbery and appealed to the general public to collaborate with the new reformed F. SARS in order to have a better society.
