THE Nigeria Red Cross Society, Anambra chapter, has solicited support of the state government, corporate organisations and individuals to enhance its operations during emergency situations.
The Vice Chairman of Red Cross in the state, Prof Peter Katchy made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha, Anambra, on Monday.
Katchy said the organisation lacked many equipment and capacity required for disaster preparedness, mitigation and rapid response to the most vulnerable.
He said the organisation needed ambulances, pick-up vans, stretchers, first aid boxes, blankets, buckets, medicaments, among others, to carry out its job.
The vice chairman said the donation of the items would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of destitute and handicapped persons as well as abandoned and motherless babies in the society.
Katchy said the organisation was appraising the roles of humanitarian groups in the state with a view to collaborating with them in rendering services to humanity.
He commended Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra for paying attention to the health sector in the state and he urged him to support the organisation in its work.
