‘She receives her lovers call at unholy hours, exchanges dirty SMS with them’

A man, Dauda Mustapha has dragged his wife, Simbiat Mustapha before Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State on the accounts that she’s irresponsible, disobedient and wayward.

He pleaded with the court to put an end to their relationship and grant him custody of their three children.

He further prayed the court to restrain her from coming to harass or fight him in his house or work place.

“My prayer before this court this morning is that it put an end to the union between my wife and I. I have tolerated her misbehavior for long and can’t stick it any longer.

“My wife is disobedient and derives pleasure in engaging in all that I frown on.

“She doesn’t have time for the children and has failed as a mother. Hardly does the day break before she jumps out of the house. She will not be there to ensure they bathe, eat and go to school. I carry out these duties in the morning before leaving for work. Despite the fact that I go to the market and purchase food items, my wife will never cook.

“She will be the first person to leave our compound early in the morning and the last to come in. Many times she returns home after the gate to the compound has been locked and will start banging thus waking up our neighbours.

“We have often had rows with our neighbours over this issue and our landlord has threatened to send us packing.

“Our neighbours always make jest of me that I have no control over my wife which I find humiliating, “he said.

“My wife feels I’m no more befitting for her and has therefore taken to adultery. She now has chains of lovers who call especially at unholy hours. She receives their calls in my presence to spite me while the text messages she exchanges with them on her phone are dirty. She has pictures of some of her lovers displayed on her phone.

“My lord, I’m tired of living with a harlot, I plead that you separate us, “the plaintiff concluded.

The defendant did not come to court after she had been served a court hearing twice.

Giving his judgment after he had considered the evidence given by the plaintiff, and considering the fact that the defendant intentionally made herself unavailable after being served a court summon and hearing, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade pronounced their marriage dissolved.
