Re-run elections: APC, PDP sue for peace in Jigawa

The two main political parties participating in the re-run elections of the member house of representatives, representing Birninkudu/Buji federal constituency in Jigawa have agreed to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls on Saturday.

Speaking to Tribune Online differently in the state the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition party People Democratic Party (PDP) have promised to ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming Saturday Re-run election in two local government areas of the federal constituency.

All the two political parties expressed confidence and hope to win the re-ren election.

Speaking to Online Tribune, the APC state chairman, Alhaji Aminu Sani Gumel briefly after the meeting for Planing and Election Strategic Committee of their party, said, the party (APC) has concluded all plans to ensure victory in the re-run election.

Hon Aminu explained that, APC is the confidence of reclaiming the seat it lost as a result of INEC administrative mistake which allocated victory to PDP during the 2023 general election.

He noted that, the court verdict which nullified the said PDP victory and order for Re-run election which now INEC set to conduct on Saturday 3rd February will certainly give the electorates of the constituency chance to have their mandate back.

“As we are going out to reclaim our seat we will also make sure full compliance to the election act, we will not give chance for any act of violence at what ever form, and any body who dear to cause breach of peace we will report him to security from what ever political party he belong to.”

Our leader governor, Malam Umar Namadi is the chief security of the state, he is always advocating for Jigawa people to be their brothers keepers, election is not do or die affairs, therefore it is our collective civic responsibility to support peaceful conduct of the election for progress and development of our dear state” APC Chairman declared.

In his part the chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Hon. Aliyu Idris Diginsa said called on his party’s members to be law abiding and come out en-mass peacefully and orderly votes for PDP to reaffirm the earlier part’s victory.

Hon. Aliyu Idris Diginsa noted that despite the court verdict which nullified their victory and order for re-run election at 8 poling Units, they are optimistic their candidate will retain the seat.

He noted that, democracy is a gem of the majority, and PDP has the majority in Birninkudu/ Buji Federal constituency and beyond, therefore they have confidence in maintaining their victory after the re-run.

Hon Diginsa then called on their members and supporters registered at the affected polling unit to come and vote for reaffirming PDP victory and the confidence they have on their candidate.

“We are also calling on our members to be law abiding citizens during and after the election as our party is a party of peace, we will give all necessary support to the security for maintaining law and order,” Hon Diginsa stated.
