Re: Noose tightens around service chiefs

Published by

The President Muhammadu Buhari government is now notorious for a “sit tight” syndrome among chief executives of government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) trying to do away with retirement thereby encouraging stagnation in service and redundancy.

The case of the clerk of the National Assembly is one example, the Federal Polytechnic, Bida is another agency engulfed in serious crisis over the re-appointment of the rector, Dr Zukogi, who will retire by February 2021 for the second term.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has described him as a ‘sole-administrator’ or political appointee, the first of its kind in academics as if there is no other person with required competence.

It’s called tenure extension but is actually the retention of an era.

Moh’d Bagudu,

Minna.
