Ranking the Euro 2024 favourites

As the countdown to Euro 2024 intensifies, football enthusiasts across the globe eagerly anticipate one of the sport’s most prestigious international tournaments.

Nations from all over Europe will gather in Germany, each vying for glory and the coveted championship trophy.

While every participating team dreams of lifting the cup, some squads stand out as frontrunners, boasting a blend of talent, strategy, and form that sets them apart.

In this article, we delve into the leading contenders in the Euro 2024 winner odds, analysing their strengths, key players, and recent performances to rank the favourites for Euro 2024.

France

While France are technically second favourites behind England in the betting markets, we are ranking them as the number one contender going into Euro 2024.

Les Bleus have performed well in World Cups under Didier Deschamps, reaching back-to-back finals and winning one, but they failed to make an impression in the last European Championships, exiting in the round of 16.

That could change this year, as France heading to Germany on the back of an unbeaten qualification campaign that saw them win all but one of their eight games.

The Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe is, of course, their main threat and if he performs as well as he did Qatar, then he could fire France to their first Euros success since 2000.

England

As already mentioned, England are the favourites if you’re looking to use your Euro 2024 betting offers on selecting the potential winners, but they come in second to France for us.

Indeed, this is arguably the Three Lions’ best chance to win a major tournament in years, with a plethora of talent going into the tournament on the back of outstanding seasons and in fine form.

Jude Bellingham played a huge role in Real Madrid winning the La Liga/Champions League double, Phil Foden was named the Player of the Season after helping Manchester City win a fourth-straight Premier League title, while Cole Palmer had a breakthrough season at Chelsea — to name just a few.

However, France have displayed the ability to get over the finish line that England perhaps haven’t under Southgate, and that could give Les Bleus a slight edge at the Euros.

Portugal

Portugal are a side who are potentially being overlooked ahead of the Euros, as Robert Martinez’s side are the fourth favourites at 8/1.

A Selecao da Quinas were the surprise winners of the European Championships in 2016, beating France on home soil, and their squad going into this year’s squad is arguably stronger.

Portugal won all 10 of their Euro 2024 qualifiers, and Cristiano Ronaldo remains an indomitable threat despite being on the cusp of 40 and currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia.

Their form and a quality squad, which includes a good mix of youth and experience, give Portugal a solid chance ahead of the Euros.

Spain

Spain’s World Cup went up in smoke when they were stunned in the round of 16 by dark horses Morocco, but they have shown several times that they can be a powerhouse once again.

Euro 2020 semi-finalists, Spain won the 2022-23 Nations League and topped their Euro 2024 qualifying group with seven wins and just a sole defeat to Scotland.

La Roja have a solid group of core players, including Unai Simon, Aymeric Laporte, Rodri and Alvaro Morata, while the addition of exciting youngsters could help their case in Germany.

The downside for Spain is that they have been drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ alongside Croatia, Italy and Albania.

Germany

All eyes will be on the hosts this summer, which comes with added pressure, and Germany are the third favourites at odds of 4/1.

Die Mannschaft have been disappointing at recent major tournaments, failing to get out of the groups at the last two World Cups while being knocked out of Euro 2016 in the round of 16.

Mixed form over the last 18 months, including disappointing defeats against Japan, Colombia and Turkey, and just five wins in 13 games since the start of 2023 is not a good look, costing Hansi Flick his job.

Germany have some exciting players, and there is an argument that Julian Naglesmann has got his side firing at the right time with those wins over France and the Netherlands in March, but there are too many negatives.
