In a bid to support Muslim civil servants observing Ramadan, the Sokoto State Government has announced a temporary adjustment to official working hours throughout the holy month.
A circular issued by the Head of Civil Service, Sulaiman S/Fulani Ahmadu, on Wednesday, March 3, 2025, outlined the new schedule, which applies to all civil servants, including those in the Unified Local Government Service and the Local Government Education Authority.
“Under this adjustment, government offices will close at 2:30 PM from Monday to Thursday and at noon on Fridays, allowing employees to leave work one and a half hours earlier than usual.
“Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto approved the change to enable Muslim workers to dedicate more time to religious observances, prayers, and preparations for breaking their fast”
The circular emphasized that the move was designed to facilitate greater spiritual engagement during Ramadan.
This decision highlights the government’s recognition of the significance of Ramadan and its commitment to accommodating religious practices among its workforce.
