Ramadan: Oyo APC chieftain urges prayer for Nigeria

AS Muslims across the globe commence this year’s Ramadan, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Mr Akinjide Akinola, has called on the faithful to use the opportunity of the sacred month to seek Allah’s intervention in the numerous challenges facing the country.

Akinola, in a statement on Friday in Ibadan by his media aide, Dayo Ogunsola, said every Ramadan offers Muslims a fresh opportunity for spiritual rebirth, renewed commitment to worship and acceptance of supplications by Allah.

He said: “An average person living in any part of the world deserves to appreciate God for the grace to be alive again in spite of the numerous problems confronting the human race at this difficult time.

“For the followers of Prophet Muhammad to have weathered the storm of Covid-19 pandemic, economic downturn, insecurity and instability which ravage the entire globe at the moment and observed the sacred month of Ramadan with fear of Allah, we can be sure that all our prayers to God Almighty will be answered.

“It is important to urge all citizens, especially the good people of Oyo State, to use the auspicious occasion to work for peace, harmony and tranquility among themselves. And while we are calling for fervent prayers against insecurity and economic hardship ravaging the land, we also urge people to put behind their differences and join hands to restore peace and security in all the nooks and crannies of the state.”

The Ibadan-born security expert added that arrangements had been concluded for the distribution of food items for party members as well as constituents of Egbeda/Ona-Ara in the spirit of Ramadan and the Lenten season as he assured the people of his commitment to making life more comfortable for the masses.

“We have done so much in the areas of providing succour to the needy, provision of potable water, solar streetlights, empowerment of individuals and community services while it is our sincere resolve to do more in view of the current economic situation in the society and the need to give hope to the common man who struggles to make ends meet,” Akinola said.
