Ramadan: NACOMYO cautions traders, govt agencies, others

Published by

AS Ramadan fast commences, the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has advised traders against hiking of prices of foodstuffs and other items so as not to increase the economic hardship presently being experienced by Nigerians.

The Muslim youth apex group also cautioned government agencies, military and private establishments against trampling on people’s rights and insulting their religious sensibilities in order to achieve national cohesion, unity and progress.

The group, in a statement by its National President, Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde, particularly appealed to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the army to avoid scheduling orientation camp and recruitment, two strenuous physical and mental activities, in the month of Ramadan which “put fasting Muslims among the corps members and army recruits at a disadvantage.”

It urged Muslims and other Nigerians to use the opportunity of the holy month to pray for the recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently out of the country for medical attention.

The group also enjoined Muslim preachers and scholars to focus their tafsir (analysis of the Qur’an) and lectures on the ills plaguing the society and on attitudinal change as antidote to the vices.

Meanwhile, as the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) attains a decade  of existence today, NACOMYO has commended the government agency responsible for the conduct and organisation of hajj has been commended for rejuvenating hajj operations in the country through various reforms and innovations.
