The Vice President General, Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic, Sheik (Dr) Abulfatar Chimaeze Emetuma has enjoined Muslim worshipers and Nigerians to use the period of Ramadan to endure and persevere in their lives in view of the current economic hardship in the country.
The Grand Iman of Igbo Land in his message on Saturday in Owerri, urged Muslim faithful to apply whatever benefits accrued during the period of fasting as an injunction by Allah to their daily lives.
He said: “At the end of Ramadan people can still bear with the current economic hardship temporarily especially where there is nothing to eat until things improve”.
The traditional ruler of Umuofor Autonomous Community in Oguta Council Area of Imo while outlining some of the benefits of fasting, said that in human metabolism certain diseases that easily affect human beings from what they eat, cannot find their way into the body during the period of fasting because there is nothing to eat
He said: “By fasting, one is fulfilled compared with the present situation in the land”.
According to the monarch, since Allah has directed all Muslims to observe fasting in this period of Ramadan, any Muslim worshiper who did not carry out the injunction has disobeyed Allah.
He acknowledged the fact that certain members such as the sick/old person, pregnant women, and those travelling, are exempted from observing fasting, adding that after the period, they can also observe it to make up for the lost period.
The Sheik declared that fasting is mandatory for every Muslim worshiper adding that according to Allah’s promise anyone who keeps to the yearly injunction would certainly be rewarded.
He advised Muslim members to try as much as they could to abide by and observe the necessary rules of fasting.
