THE management of the University Press Plc, last week celebrated some members of staff and customers who had distinguished themselves in their assignments last year.
The annual event is an opportunity by the management of the publishing firm to make the company’s staff and customers feel valued.
Speaking during the event, the new chairman of the company, Mr Obafunso Ogunkeye, said the foundation of University Press Plc was built on the welfare of staff and customers, and as such, the company would continue to reward hard work and commitment.
Mr Ogunkeye, who was presiding over the event for the first time since he became chairman, promised that under his leadership, staff and customers’ welfare would remain paramount.
He said: “Despite the challenges being faced in the industry, we have been able to sustain the company on the path of growth and we can’t achieve this without our staff and customers.
“That is why we will continue to reward hard work and commitment by our staff and customers; this celebration will also spur others to work harder in the hope that they too will be celebrated and appreciated by the company,” Mr Ogunkeye said.
While also speaking, the Managing Director, Mr Samuel Kolawole, said despite the economy, the company would always focus on the interest of staff and customers.
“I am happy that the tradition of rewarding staff and customers has been sustained and it will continue.
“I, however, want to charge staff and customers to continue to put in their best so that while the company’s profits increase next year, they can also be celebrated,” Mr Kolawole said.
In her vote of thanks, the Executive Director (Publishing), Mrs Folakemi Bademosi, appreciated the management for putting the interest of staff and customers on the front burner.
Mrs Bademosi said that alone would spur staff to do more for the company, knowing full well that their efforts would not be in vain.
The executive director of publishing also urged young staff to develop their careers in the company, as the management is a worker-friendly one.
She then thanked a non-executive director of the company, Professor Akachi Ezeigbo for presenting the best staff of the year, Mr Adegbenga Moses Oni, a personal award.
Mr Oni has been winning the best staff award since 2015, with Mrs Bademosi challenging other staff members to also work harder to be recognised.
The management also rewarded those who had spent long years in the company.
