Public servants seek Yemi-Esan’s intervention over running of federal civil service club in Adamawa

Members of the Senior Federal Civil Servants (SFCS) in Adamawa state have called on the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi, to quickly step in to save them from further embarrassment orchestrated by the two-man Interim Committee set up to oversee the running of federal civil service club.

The group stated this at a press briefing in Yola, through its spokesman, Mr Thomas Maiwada.

They berated the way and manner the Interim Committee headed by Ayuba Mboh and Marshall Johnson, inaugurated by the Director, of Occupational Health Safety and Environment, Dr. Comfort Adeosun for banning Heads of Federal Establishments from being members of the group particularly stopping them from vying for elective positions.

The Federal Civil Service Club, Yola, was commissioned on 7th, December 2022 by the Head of Federal Civil service of the federation Dr. Folashade Yemi, for federal civil service workers in the state.

The aggrieved senior civil servants serving in various federal establishments in the state said they were not happy with the letter signed by the Director of occupational health safety.

The letter made available to Tribune Online reads, “I am directed to convey the approval of the Head of the federal civil service of the federation for the Constitution of interim management of the federal civil service club Yola, Adamawa state, with Marshall Johnson as publicity secretary and Ayuba Mboh as secretary general,. “.

They questioned the rationale behind Dr Adeosun setting up a two-man interim committee in Adamawa without chairman, treasurer and financial secretary to run the affairs of the club.

However, Investigation revealed that the Constitution of the Federal Civil Service Club states that in the event that interim management is constituted, they have only 21 days to conduct an election but as of today, they have not been able to conduct any election.

“We are appealing to the Head of federal civil service of the federation to ensure that the election is conducted immediately, since Ayuba will be retiring next month and Marshall Johnson has been replaced by the head of administration of FRCN, Fombina Radio, Mr. Miga Haruna Suleiman, since on the 4th of March, 2024.”

The aggrieved senior federal civil servants added that the interim committee refused to register all heads of federal establishments and other senior federal civil servants as members, saying that they don’t have ID cards and must get an endorsement from the Director of Human Resources in their headquarters in Abuja.

Also, they noted that the committee required them to spend five years as members of a club that is less than two years old before they will be qualified for elections.

Meanwhile, a member of the two-man committee, Mr Marshall Johnson, while reacting to the claims, said “It is not true that I was replaced, the constitution is very clear about legibility to contest for position in the club”

“The problem started when one of the purported candidates was not allowed to buy form for the contest because he has not spent five years as a member of the club.
“As I speak to you now, there is no problem between we and members of the club, all we are doing as interim officers is to follow the constitution to the best of our abilities ”
