DAURA Local Council in Katsina State has commenced the evacuation of 11 mounting refuse sites in Daura to promote sanitation and public health.
Malam Musa Ma’aruf, the council’s Director of Water Sanitation and Hygiene made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Thursday.
Ma’aruf said already, N700, 000 have been spent on the evacuation of refuse sites located in Kusugu, Malamawa, Kwargwam, Shaiskawa, Kofar Arewa, Emir’s palace and Daura I Primary School in the metropolis.

He added that four other refuse sites would soon be evacuated to ensure that the town was not littered with refuse.
The director assured that the council would continue with the exercise including clearance of drainages to avert flooding and outbreak of diseases due to contamination.
He, however, called on the general public to adhere strictly to the civilized culture of dumping refuse in designated collection centres to promote hygienic living.
Ma’aruf commended the council chairman Alhaji Abba Mato for the regular funding of the department which enabled it to perform its statutory responsibilities.
NAN recalls that the department recently spent N4.1 million on the repair of 26 boreholes to enhance the supply of potable water to residents.
