PTI matriculates 1,792 students, warns against criminality

FRESH students admitted to the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, have been urged to eschew criminality such as cultism, stealing, assaults and drug peddling, among others on campus.

Principal and chief executive of PTI, Professor Sunny Iyuke, gave the warning at the 2020 combined matriculation ceremony of full time and School of Industrial Continuing Education Students of 2019/2020 academic session of the institute, held at the weekend in Effurun.

Professor Iyuke, who was represented by his vice principal, Dr Henry Adimula, disclosed that no fewer than 1,792 students were matriculated at the ceremony by the standard of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the PTI post-UTME requirements.

“Your primary aim for coming to PTI is to study. I urge you to channel your energies in that direction. Please, remember that you were admitted into the institute as an individual and you will graduate as an individual.

“Therefore, you are entirely responsible for all your actions. You can make or mar your future,” the PTI boss noted.

Professor Iyuke also warned the matriculating students against examination misconduct, certificate forgery, stealing, physical and sexual assault, cultism, drug peddling and smoking of Indian hemp.

“If you are caught involved in any of these acts, nobody will speak on your behalf or change the rules and regulations in the handbook. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he warned.

Meanwhile, 3,602 candidates were said to have applied for admission to pursue a career in the Higher National Diploma, National Diploma and Certificate programmes for the 2019/2020 session.
