PTI matriculates 1, 896 students for new academic session

THE Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, on Friday, matriculated 1, 896 students for the 2018/2019 academic session.

Principal of the Institution, Professor Sunny Iyuke, made the disclosure at a combined matriculation ceremony of the Full-Time and School of Industrial Continuing Education students.

Iyuke said no fewer than 2, 800 candidates applied for admission to pursue a career in the Higher National Diploma (HND), National Diploma and Certificate Programmes for the 2018/2019 Session.

Iyuke administered the institution’s oath on the matriculants on Friday at the PTI Conference Centre at Effurun.

He said the successful candidates were declared qualified for admission by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the PTI requirements.

“Out of this number, 1, 896 candidates were qualified for admission by the standards of the JAMB as well as the PTI internal requirements where applicable.

“I urged you to be creative, innovative, resourceful, focussed and work hard to justify the confidence reposed in you, bearing in mind that matriculation is not just a fanfare, but a serious responsibility,” he admonished.

Iyuke reiterated that PTI was vigorously pursuing the digitisation project in line with the global trend of Information Communication Technologies.

He also said that the institution was collaborating with the University of Port Harcourt to run post-HND leading to the award of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and Master in Engineering.

He added that the initiative commenced in 2018.

“PTI, for 47 years running has been the hub for petroleum expertise with a reputation for providing high-quality technical education in petroleum disciplines for the oil and gas sector.

“Plans are underway to re-evaluate, add value and dignity to the institute’s programmes.

” In the nearest future PTI will be awarding Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) to its graduates as against the present HND.

“The proposal will be presented to the PTI Governing Council and the National University Commission soon for consideration,” he noted.

The PTI Principal expressed the management’s deep commitment to providing a conducive learning environment.

He, therefore, urged the students to shun social vices such as cultism, stealing, examination misconduct, thuggery during elections and drug peddling among others.

“If there is any cause for complaint, please channel them through the approved channel of communication, management will address all genuine complaints within the institution’s rules and regulations,” he said.

Iyuke urged the students to maintain a high standard of discipline and study hard to promote the image of the institution wherever they might find themselves.

One of the matriculants, Miss Eseoghene David, who fielded questions from journalists, said she would study hard to justify the confidence reposed in her by her parents and the institution.
