Protests will worsen economic crisis, Ogun monarch warns youths

The Olowo of Owo Yewa in Yewa South local government area of Ogun state, HRM Oba Mojeed Adesegun Rufai Alao has warned against the repeat of the gory experience of the 2020 EndSARS saga as the nation warms up for another round of mass protest on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Oba Alao in a telephone chat with the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday recounted the 2020 EndSARS protest experience during which scores of the nation’s youths reportedly lost their lives.

He stated that embarking of mass protest is not the solution to the lingering economic crisis bedeviling the nation.

The protest, according to him, will further compound the economic woes of the Country.

What the Country is facing today started some years back, and its solution will be a gradual process, which the present administration is doing.

We should all be patient with the present administration for it to actualize its various economic policies.

United States of America and South Africa have undergone the same processes in the past before the get to where they are today.

My advice to the people of Nigeria is to be patient. In America, the Blacks struggled for 80 years before they assumed the leadership position likewise in South Africa

It will take a long process before we can get to where we are going to. My only appeal is for the people in my domain and the nation at large to have a re-think on this matter.

I am appealing to my people in Owo to stay away from the protest. I don’t pray for a repeat of the gory experience of the 2020
