The Benue State Command has significantly increased security presence in Makurdi, the state capital. Our correspondent observed a substantial number of security personnel throughout the city on Monday.
This heightened security presence is likely in response to the planned hunger protest scheduled for August 1 across the country.
Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state command, stated that the deployment of policemen is intended to deter those who might attempt to disrupt public order.

She reassured the residents that the large police presence is not meant to intimidate them but to ensure their safety and maintain peace.
“The presence of police officers across Makurdi today is not to scare citizens but to assure them of police presence and warn any hoodlum who intends to cause a breach of peace in the name of protest,” Anene said.
