Protest: NSCDC deploys 600 personnel in Gombe

Published by

A total of 600 personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe Command have been deployed across the state to safeguard lives and property during the nationwide protest against bad governance.

The disclosure was made by the NSCDC Commandant, Muhammad Bello Mu’azu while briefing journalists in Gombe on Wednesday on the preparedness of the Command for the protest.

He explained that the mobilisation of the personnel was a strategic move to curtail any excesses by the protesters anywhere in the state.

Bello Muazu emphasised the critical role of the NSCDC in protecting national assets, infrastructure, and private property across markets and business hubs in the state.

He then issued a stern directive to the deployed personnel to uphold professionalism by avoiding any form of harassment, molestation or shooting of protester.

According to him, “The integrity of the NSCDC rests on our ability to maintain order without infringing on the rights of the citizens.”

He underscored the importance of vigilance to prevent the protest from being commandeered by individuals with malicious intentions aiming to incite violence and disrupt the peace.

The Commandant also appealed to the residents of Gombe State to remain law-abiding and to steer clear of actions that could compromise the state’s relative tranquility.

“Our primary goal is to ensure that the protest proceeds peacefully without any untoward incidents,” he added.

He stressed that the deployment underscores the NSCDC’s commitment to balancing security enforcement with the protection of citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.

Bello Mu’azu added that,”As the protest approaches, the Corps remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any potential threats, ensuring the safety and security of all Gombe State residents.”
