In a bid to ensure that Nigerian students do not participate in the August 1 scheduled hunger protest against the Federal Government, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has set up committees to monitor campuses and fish out those that want to use students against the FG.
NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe who addressed the media in Abuja, urged the FG to listen to the plights of Nigerian Students.
“Nigerian students are suffering but we will not imitate those who wants to use protest to achieve political gain.
“We have noted with concern the calls for protests that are circulating in various quarters. While we respect the rights of individuals and groups to express their views, it is imperative to clarify that NANS, as the umbrella body representing millions of Nigerian students, does not support any action that may lead to instability or unrest in our beloved country.
“We declare our unwavering support for the policies and programs of the current administration. We recognize that the government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is making significant strides to address the myriad of challenges facing our nation. The reforms being implemented are necessary for the long term growth and development of Nigeria, and we are prepared to endure the associated pains for the greater good of all citizens,” he said
He also commended the FG On the introduction of the NELFUND that have been of great benefits to the youths.
They also lauded the National Security Adviser (NSA) for his efforts in securing the nation as well as the Minister of Defence for his love for the Nigerian students and they also passed a vote of confidence on them
“We would like to extend our appreciation to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Honorable Minister of Defense, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, for their timely intervention and efforts in ensuring the stability of our country. Their leadership and dedication to maintaining peace and security are commendable and have not gone unnoticed by the Nigerian student community.
“In conclusion, NANS reaffirms its commitment to the unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria. We call on all Nigerian students to remain focused on their studies and contribute positively to the nation’s development. Let us stand together in support of the government’s efforts to build a better Nigeria for all,” he added.
