Protest: Gov Buni commends Yobe youths

As the anticipated nationwide protests commenced on Thursday, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has commended the people of the state, especially the youth, for staying away from the streets.

A statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director of General Press and Media Affairs, to the Governor, declared that the youths in the North East state behaved responsibly, knowing that the state was just emerging out of a protracted security challenge.

Governor Buni said, “I am happy we are working on the same page; we clearly understand our situation; the state is just picking its pieces, and we cannot afford to accommodate anything, including protests, to draw us backwards.

“The good people of Yobe, and especially our vibrant youth, have shown great love, concern, and patriotism for the state by adhering to calls against joining the protest,” he said.

The governor assured that his administration would remain focused on its vision to expand its policies and programmes to promote economic recovery and growth and accommodate a large number of beneficiaries.

“We recently launched the massive agricultural empowerment programme to enhance agricultural production and ensure food sufficiency and security in the state.

“As you are aware, 20 farmers from each of the 178 political wards are benefiting from the empowerment programme; this is in addition to the employment the government has offered to our youths in all the political wards,” he added.

Buni maintained that the government would ensure that Yobe State becomes a role model in both rain-fed and irrigation agricultural production.

He further assured that, with such understanding, the government would continue to execute more people-oriented policies and programmes to improve the lives of the people.
