Protest: Avoid gathering that could be disastrous, Finitri tells Nigerians

Published by

As the nation anticipates a planned nationwide protest, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged the citizens of Adamawa State to avoid gatherings that could potentially lead to disasters or result in loss of lives and property.

While acknowledging the rights of Nigerians to free, peaceful, and lawful assembly, the governor said, “I admonish you, the good people of Adamawa State, to avoid gatherings that could escalate into disastrous events, giving miscreants the opportunity to create havoc, leading to loss of lives and property.”

Governor Fintiri conveyed this message through the Adamawa State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Iliya James, on Monday in Yola.

He stated, “As a government, we are acutely aware of the hardships faced by our people and we feel the pulse of every citizen during these trying times.

However, we must recognize the significant developments achieved by this government across the state. I urge everyone to protect and guard these achievements dispassionately, honestly, and humbly.”

Although Adamawa State has not yet received the purported 20 trucks of food items allocated by the Federal Government, the governor noted that the state government has been proactive in distributing relief food items within its available resources to alleviate the hardship faced by the people.

He also mentioned that the government has received part of the fertilizer allocated to Adamawa State, and the distribution of these fertilizers, along with those procured by the state government, is ongoing.

“The government of Adamawa State firmly believes that there is no alternative to peace. It is essential to note that the concerns of the intending protesters have been acknowledged, and it is time to embrace reason, drawing lessons from the recent ‘End SARS’ protests,” he added.

Despite the challenges, the government is working tirelessly to change the narrative of the state and improve the quality of life for everyone.

Meanwhile, the joint security forces in the state have launched an operation to demonstrate their strength, with armed security officers patrolling every flashpoint in the state.

In many junctions in the state capital, heavily armed gun trucks and armored carriers filled with military, police, and paramilitary personnel were seen, making vehicular movement difficult
