Protest in Ajaokuta over alleged killing of HND graduate by policeman

There was pandemonium in Ajaokuta village, Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State as a police officer allegedly killed a man during a political rally in the area.

The deceased, Mallam Mohammed Ismail, was said to have been shot dead on Sunday during the declaration of intention of an aspirant to contest the local government election in the state.

Ismail, who was a Higher National Diploma (HND) graduate of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was said to have been killed during the inauguration of the declaration of one of the chairmanship aspirants of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local government, Mallam Abdulrahaman Danasabe, at the football pitch of the Local Government Secondary School in Ajaokuta village.

Sources stated that the chairmanship aspirant had put the programme together to unfold his plans to move the local government forward.

It was further learnt that while the event was proceeding, the police officer, who was suspected to have acted because of the influence of alcohol suddenly opened fire and the bullets penetrated the victim’s left rib and bursting out through the right rib.

The development was said to have led to confusion in the area as those at the venue of the rally scamper for safety towards directions.

Efforts to save the life of the deceased proved abortive, as he was said to have given up shortly after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The deceased who was said to be an HND graduate of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, was later buried around 7.30 pm on Sunday night.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Kogi State Police Command, Mr William Ayah, who confirmed the incident, however, said the command had commenced a further investigation on it.
